A concept that I want to share with you all.
It is obvious to anyone with a clear head that most of the major news media have a liberal bias, but that has never really made sense to me. Why specifically liberal? What do they stand to gain? What is so attractive about the liberal viewpoint? Then, one day, in the middle of a debate with a newspaper editor friend it hit me: Journalists are not necessarily inherently liberal, they are inherently elitist. It just happens that, in the current U.S., the liberal view is the elitist view. Journalists are in the business of blessing us poor ignorant rubes with the gems of their superior wisdom and insight, and they come to believe in their own superior intellect. However, their belief in their own intellectual superiority is usually not supported by any real ability to think independently, so they must resort to adopting someone else's thought, and since conservatism is sort of declasse, they opt for liberalism, the belief system of ignorant chardonnay-swillers, corporate middle-managers, celebrities, cocktail partiers, and all the other cultural buffoons and intellectual poseurs the world has been cursed with. It's the belief system that anyone can spout and sound enlightened without having to actually think through to the consequences of their adopted agenda. It's prepackaged and ready-to-wear, and all the other ignorant liberal elitists will know you for the truly evolved person you are. There are no hard truths in liberalism, only feel-good idealism and self-congratulatory cultural fascism. It's the perfect belief system for those who cannot or will not think for themselves.
So, there it is, do with it what you will. |
