I think we have a mutual desire for survival, and serious economic trouble, IMO is not a sane reason to launch thermonuclear weapons on anyone directly.
You are quite right, also Imho, that the military generals are on the edge if not already selling them to other countries, not having been paid in six months+, I think I heard they were recently paid in Vodka, but things are bad. This is absolutely terrifying. I think the communists may well regain power, but being the optimist I am, and from what I have heard from educated sources, Russia cannot and will not return to being U.S.S.R..
Yeltsin, imho, may be near his end, but who knows? There are enough people calling for his resignation, and his newly reappointed assistant (name?) is a former hardline communist will probably succeed him.?
