Hi, Christine, just want to go on record with agreeing with you, based on what i've read-- much the same as what you've read-- about Mother Teresa. And on the fact that no one who praises her denies that she opposed birth control in India, hobnobbed with Duvalier and the like, opposed painkillers, and in general, seemed to glory in the suffering of the poor. Or that she had very excellent medical care herself.
Before we had our daughter, we thought about whether we really ought to, instead of bringing another child into the world, adopt an unfortunate child who was already here. We eventually decided, selfishly, I recognize, to have our own child; but not before we sent for information to a Christian organization which was publishing heartrending appeals for adoptive parents for tragically impoverished children. Imagine my surprise when the forms we received back said our application would only be considered if we were "true born-again Christians."
So it doesn't surprise me that Mother Teresa would rather have a wretched child continue in wretchedness forever than allow someone of another religion to give the child a loving home and a full, happy life. Those Christians, what will they think of to help humanity next! |
