Very interesting statistics about the performance of individual stocks vs. the index.

1. What is your source for the data?

2. Does that mean that the small percentage of stocks that beat the index did so by a huge margin?

3. The question is: will the outperformance of the index continue? If the same relationship holds over the next five years, it would be silly to try to beat the odds and try to beat the index.
