Christine, and all,

Many thanks for all of the expressions on sympathy and concern from people on this thread... I know it seems that they can't do much, but they do mean a great deal. Even if it's people you've never met in the flesh, knowing that someone cares really does make a difference.

Jenny was released yesterday, feeling much better, and went right back into the hospital this morning, with pretty much the same symptoms she was showing before. We had been warned that it could recur, and well briefed on how to handle it, so there was no great panic, but I'm not exactly happy about it. She will have to be watched closely for several months, apparently.

So on it goes... I feel bad for Joey, who was not hurt at all; he's been loafing around hospital rooms way too long. At least now we have him set up with a computer, and he's with a few friends. Doesn't look like there'll be much of a Christmas, though. Haven't even really started unravelling the insurance and legal situations, which will take time.

What doesn't help, especially in the latter realm, is that I have no memory of the accident at all. I remember driving - it was late at night and everyone else was sleeping, but I don't remember feeling especially tired - and then I remember standing on the side of the road flagging down help. My son tells me I climbed out of the car through the passenger seat, but I don't remember it. It's entirely possible that I just nodded out for a second - the local police also told me that that spot is notorious for serious crashes. No idea what actually happened, if I was actually asleep or just responded too slowly to some situation. Pretty grim, all round. First I've ever had, and I do hope the last.

Take care,

Steve
