Michael: Thank you for the theory. I think you are right, and between the two of us we have just managed to explain a good chunk of the question of why the media leans left. The impeachment threads have been especially good sources for examples of the elitist=liberal dynamic. It's amazing and disturbing how many posts I have seen that simply regurgitate the latest administration spin. Some of these statements are so incredibly obtuse that they can only be made by someone who has never really thought about them. Their manner is generally so smug and condescending that it's, IMHO, painfully apparent that these people hold these beliefs because it's the elitist thing to do.

It makes sense that academia would be the same way, since they too are in the business of sharing their superior wisdom and intellect with others. And both of your concepts (intelligence+inferiority complex=elitist and ivy league=elitist) ring true.

Ah, but what to do. Logic won't work with these people. By the time they come into positions of power their identities are so firmly established that even if they were capable of clear-headed thought they could not expose themselves to it. The risk of their entire world-view crumbling around them is too real.

More and more I think that all we can really do is to sit back and let them continue on their road to politically correct federally wet-nursed ruin and hope we can ride out the coming storm. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that I will end up counted among the intelligentsia and will suffer the same fate I would have suffered 80 years ago in the Soviet Union. If in the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed man is not king then he is an obvious threat to the blind man who is.

Well...that's depressing.
