" I probably shouldn't bother you but your recent message about the lady freezing to death stuck a chord with me.
I am a lurker, I read your board each day, my whole net worth would be chump change to you guys, but I made a years salary since Oct 1 and am very grateful for the ideas I got and for the money I made.
I worked in social service for 12 years and truly know the great need that exists everywhere. And I am a giver. Two years ago I heard about a woman who fell through the medical card cracks. The card would pay for teeth extractions but would not pay for dentures. So I paid for the dentures. Stop and think about it. That gift gave that girl her self-esteem and who knows where that will take her. And it will probably keep her from developing gastro-intestinal problems in the future.
So now I have done it for the third year. Each November I prowl tne dentist offices until I find a person who needs dentures. And I pay for them. Never know the person, would not want to know. Wouldn't want anyone to feel obligated to me. $700 for two dentures, $350 for one, dentists will give discount to me. Even for me, that is chump change. IRS ruling told me it is not tax deductible. Who cares?
It is a very personal gift to that person. And it is a gift that is theirs only, can't be sold, traded, bartered, it is theirs.
Evidently, this is not done often. The dentists I have worked with are awestruck by my offer. And to me it is no big deal. Everyone needs teeth.
Just wanted to bring this unusual gift to your attention. If you think this message is worth posting on your board, you can do so. BUT I DON'T WANT A BUNCH OF PMs telling me how great I am. I'm not great, I just did what I think anyone would do if they knew how to do it. I would like others to know of the great gift they can give to a fellow human being.
Thanks for your time. Happy Holidays and keep up the good work. " |
