My opinion on the future of ads is

that they cannot become very intrusive, even with broadband. TV commercials are the definition of intrusive. Sitting there watching Seinfeld and they show you the ad. You can't do anything about it other that change the channel. You must come back however, to see the rest of Seinfeld, which is why most people don't do it. If you are looking for information, chat, etc on Yahoo, and they start peppering you with a bunch of crap, they will lose you as a customer, because one of the other free services will choose a different strategy with less intrusive ads. Have you ever been pissed off using Netcenter when they send you a separate ad in another window. You have to close the window, etc. Networks with proprietary content can advertise, conduits for commodity information can't.
