Hanks, Ryan combo beats Moses cartoon at box office

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - ''You've Got Mail'', a romantic comedy starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, delivered a No. 1 debut at the weekend box office, easily beating the Moses cartoon ''The Prince of Egypt''.
According to studio estimates issued Sunday, Warner Bros.' ''You've Got Mail'' opened with $18.7 million for the Friday-to-Sunday period in North America, while DreamWorks' ''The Prince of Egypt'' debuted at No. 2 with $14.3 million.
Walt Disney Co.'s ''A Bug's Life'' slipped a notch to No. 3 with $9.5 million, bringing its total to $95.9 million.
Last week's No. 1, ''Star Trek: Insurrection'', tumbled to fourth in its second weekend with $8.5 million, a 60 percent slide from its opening score. The Paramount sci-fi saga's 10-day total is $35.8 million.
Warner Bros.' ''Jack Frost'' fell two places to No. 5 with $5 million, for a 10-day total of $13.6 million. It fell just 29 percent from it opening score.
Warner Bros. is a unit of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:TWX - news) Paramount Pictures is a unit of Viacom Inc. (AMEX:VIA - news) DreamWorks LLC is privately held.
