I have been watching Ballard myself. I believe that fuel cells will be the power source that will replace the combustion engine. However I don't see this happening with in my life time. Fuel cells using PEM (proton exchange membrane) are efficient, safe and easy to manufacture, however the cost are too high. Direct hydrogen vehicle are the least expensive but hydrogen is not a common fuel, and the infrastructure does not exist for wide spread distribution. The re-former based systems using readily available fuel (methanol) adds to the complexity of the system and subsequent cost. Fuel cells faces the same obstacles as conventional battery powered vehicles. Both are expensive and do not allow the same freedom and mobility that is needed to compete with the combustion engine.

I see AENG's OX2 engine as a interim step between the standard combustion engine and electric vehicles of the future. I will be the first to admit that AENG faces challenges but they are small in magnitude compared to those faced by Ballard and the fuel cell industry. The biggest advantage for AENG's technology is that it is profitable for companies to use it. I think this will be proven in the 1st quarter of 1999.
Of course this is just my opinion.

With all that said, let me close by wishing you and other participant on this thread a MERRY CHRISTMAS
