He was brought down first and foremost by his incredible idiocy, mendacity and narcissism, and by the will of a relatively small group of people who, despite their culturally bred fear of opinion polls, recognized that the notion that a sitting president can break the law with impunity MUST NOT BE ALLOWED. No matter how you twist it, no matter who you try to divert the blame onto, you cannot avoid the reality that Bill Clinton lost any claim on the presidency on the day that he decided that his personal comfort was more important than his legal and moral obligations. When he chose to lie in the Paula Jones deposition he set the path that this country is now following.
