The $6,999 was for an SGI "base" system. As I mentioned in a previous post a more "typical" configuration that is likely to be purchased would be in the low to mid teens. The Dell price you quoted in most likely correct, but that is with more memory, disk, a monitor, etc.. than the SGI bare bones $6,999 base configuration. I would expect similar systems from Dell and SGI to be close in price, but the SGI will have better performance. This is what I think SGI's plans are for competing with Dell and similar companies.
