Hello Mohan:
>>Perhaps the commonality of the 'desultory' themes of Kerala writers have something to do with the genes of Keralites, you think? <<
Not really, remember another great (good) southern writer R K Narayan (I do not know if he is/was from Kerala), his book GUIDE is a good story, and movie GUIDE even better for different reasons.

I think "desultory themes" is modern phenomenon. Old time authors, like O Henry, Saki, R K Narayan,Premchand or Tagore, wrote the theme first and then wove the characters around it to get the point across.
well, just my opinion.

If you want to see desultory themes, see any of Jean Luc Goddard movie or Monty Python and flying Circus episode.

Thanks for the story, again.

Regards,
Satish
