Jinx - You are a little out of your technical depth here. You are correct that the BIOS is part of soldered down componentry, but not that it comes from Intel - only a small portion of DELL's systems use Intel-assembled components. Also it is straightforward to wipe out the BIOS, or screw it up so it only sort-of works, unless special 'lock-down' provisions are made. And it is quite possible for this to happen as a part of the final test, so that the machine tests fine then takes the poison and dies as it is being boxed up...
