More news on IXC .... it sure seems like a fit to me. LONG & STRONG DCTC> Ken >>>>>IXC Communications launched its coast-to-coast next generation Internet backbone, which will serve businesses and research institutions. The network, named Gemini2000, operates at speeds of OC-48 and is segmented into eight geographic regions. IXC states that the network will eventually be scalable to speeds of OC-192. The network is being reviewed by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for Internet2 compliance. Internet2 is a consortium of 135 universities established to help reduce Internet congestion. In other IXC news, IXC has entered into a $70 million leased capacity arrangement with Level 3. The agreement calls for IXC to lease OC-12 capacity on an initial 7,355 route miles over an OC-48 backbone to Level 3. This is in addition to capacity that Level 3 has acquired from Frontier, who acquired the fiber from Qwest.
