Hewlett-Packard Cuts Computer Prices Up To 20 Pct
PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - Computer giant Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) said Monday it was cutting prices on its personal computers and notebook computers by up to 20 percent, effective immediately.
The price cuts cover HP Vectra corporate personal computers, HP Brio business personal computers, HP Kayak Personal Computer Workstations, and HP OmniBook notebook personal computers based on Intel Pentium II and Celeron processors, Hewlett-Packard said in a statement.
Hewlett-Packard is the world's second largest computer company behind Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news)
Over the past several quarters it has blamed disappointing financial results on weakness in the Asian economy and price wars in the personal computer market.
Hewlett-Packard said the price cuts would range from 3 percent to 20 percent. A corporate personal computer with a Celeron 333MHz processor, a 4.3GB hard-disk drive, 32MB SDRAM will now sell for about $774, a price cut of 20 percent.
A powerful HP Vectra VL personal computer with Pentium II 400MHz processor, 4.3GB hard-disk drive, 64MB SDRAM and Windows NT 4.0, will sell for less than $1,500, down 3 percent. |
