Yes, Cunningham fractured his left hand during the first half on the first touchdown pass to Andrew Glover. My impression of their mission after the half was to run up the score as soon as possible to get Cunningham out of the game. On the flee flicker toss to Randy Moss in the 3rd quarter, you could actually see him praying while he came from the sidelines after being told the play. (Cunningham prays a lot during the game if you watch him closely.) After that, it was one more touchdown (to Andrew Glover), and he was done for the game.
With regards to your question, I do not think Cunningham will play next week, however, I have not read the paper yet today and do not know the extent of his injury. We do have a first round bye, so that will obviously be to Cunningham's advantage, regardless of his injury status.
I should note that throughout the season, I have maintained the idea that I am indifferent as to who is our starting quarterback. Either Cunningham or Johnson will do just fine. They've both proven they can win games this year. The bottom line, IMO, is that whoever started the most games as Viking quarterback this year would receive the NFL's leading quarterback rating. (I dare say our third stringer could do the same.) Indeed I do say that any of the league's decent quarterbacks would have done superb this year in MN. For this reason, I do not feel that Cunningham could be the MVP of the league (although that would be nice), the team as a whole is what has made him look so spectacular. IMO, Terrell Davis would be much more deserving. I would think that Denver would have a slightly more difficult time winning without Terrell Davis, whereas the Vikings have proven that they are just as powerful with Johnson as they are with Cunningham.
If TD is not deserving enough, than perhaps Moss would be??
Good luck to your team tonight, Dave |
