Uncle Frank,
I have recently switched to a buy and hold approach and have done so in my wife's retirement account. I must admit this was done after she made 100 times her initial investment since January 1998 -- thanks mostly to well timed MSFT out of the money calls(Dell and Intel helped). She is set. That is , we are not willing to risk "gambling" it all away (at her insistence).
However, I like to have fun with my account!!! I want to thank the DOJ for keeping me interested in call options. I can't pass up the opportunities that I see, especially since the Feb options are just starting to trade. If the stock trades sideways for a couple of weeks and MSFT announces on the Monday after expiration, I would be will to take a chance on jan 160s ( just a fraction of a $1 per share)
Although I consider this to be a lot of fun (win or lose).
I would warn everyone against this type of trading. In my case my first trade was a big hit (if it was a loss - I would have stopped)and I have used only the profits to keep speculating.
