Sun, most small retailers which do not do their own distribution purchase from Major wholesalers, such as Ingram. Rarely is any direct purchasing from the manufacturer ever done by the little guy. 3DFX needs to sell to the retailer by providing promotional materials, advertising, and a by providing a product that sells well, and offers good margin/low returns. This does NOT whoever mean that they have to call every mom & pop shop. They send promotional materials to the distributors, who pass it on the the little guys in the form of contests, sales incentives, etc.
