Sensormatic Receives Three-Year
Exclusive Commitment From The
Limited, Inc. to Install Anti-Theft Technologies in its
Stores

The Limited, Inc. Commits to Installing Sensormatic's Anti-Theft
Technologies Over the Next Three Years

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 1998-- Sensormatic Electronics
Corporation (NYSE:SRM - news) today said that it has received an exclusive three-year
commitment from The Limited, Inc. to install Sensormatic's electronic article surveillance (EAS)
technologies in its retail businesses.

The Limited, Inc. is one of the nation's leading specialty retailers headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.
It operates more than 5,400 stores in 11 retail business units under the banners of The Limited,
Express, Lerner New York, Lane Bryant, Henri Bendel, Structure, Limited Too, and Galyan's
Trading Co. The Limited, Inc. also owns controlling interest in Intimate Brands, Inc., Bath & Body
Works and Victoria's Secret. This commitment covers all divisions.

The Limited currently uses Sensormatic's microwave technology in some of its locations and has
recently begun to install and upgrade to Sensormatic's newest acousto-magnetic or UltraMax®
technology in some segments.

''The Limited is a long-time, valuable customer of Sensormatic and its three year commitment to our
technologies further demonstrates our ability to provide the right solution for every environment,''
said Jerry Kendall, president of Sensormatic's North American Retail Operations and a senior vice
president of the Company. ''We will continue to work closely with our customers as a strategic
partner to support the system solutions they need to improve their bottom line.''

More and more specialty and apparel retailers are upgrading their anti-shoplifting technologies to
UltraMax as source tagging gains momentum particularly in the softgoods segments. Leading retailers
such as Kmart, Hill's Department Stores, The Federated Department Stores and Carli Gry, out of
Europe, have recently made major commitments to this technology.

Sensormatic Electronics Corporation is the leading supplier of electronic security systems to the
retail, commercial and industrial marketplaces. Sensormatic is also a leader in integrated source
tagging - a process where consumer goods manufacturers apply anti-theft tags at the point of
packaging or manufacturing.
