Compaq Announces New Enterprise Software to Extend Windows NT Capabilities

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 1998-- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news) today announced Compaq Storage and Cluster Software Extensions for Windows NT which brings unique storage deployment capabilities to Windows NT. Compaq Storage and Cluster Software Extensions for Windows NT provides storage virtualization and instant data replication for Windows NT systems through host-based software.
Customer Benefit: Compaq Storage and Cluster Software Extensions for Windows NT provides advanced storage management capabilities in both Microsoft Cluster Server and non-clustered computing environments, and enables system administrators to deploy storage more flexibly and cost-effectively. It was carefully designed to complement and extend the standard capabilities of Windows NT and to utilize industry-standard server, storage, and network components. This software offers customers investment protection for their existing storage and network infrastructure.
Features include:
Virtual disk management: from pools of storage, create virtual disks sized to suit the needs of users or applications. Brings increased flexibility and simplicity to storage deployment. Snapshots: create replicas of virtual disks in seconds using high performance, data replication technology. Enables online backup and restore with minimal impact to applications. Network disks: serve virtual or physical disks, or snapshots, to applications or users from a centralized storage server. Provides storage ''location independence.'' Cluster-aware: exploits Microsoft Cluster Server for high availability.
Compaq Storage and Cluster Software Extensions for Windows NT is available immediately, for $995 (U.S.) per Windows NT system/server.
