...why is it going higher?... because there is such intrinsic value there, of course <guffaw>.

IMHO, this is one stock that has value.
I remember what Bill Gates said in the July conferance call (i think it was july). The CFO Maffei was concerned about the next quarter and that the growth rate of company can not be sustained etc.
Bill Gates when questioned said that MSFT was in the best position of any technology company given the global problems. This from a guy who thought the stock was overvalued years ago. This statement in my opinion is equivalent to Michael Metz (a bear since Dow 4000 or so)saying DOW will hit 11,000 next year.

It was in July when they warned that Sept quarter EPS would be lower (yea right !!!). They sure have some credibility in guiding analysts. Just remember how their tone changed in October -- this was my biggest indicator on the prospects of this company. Then there is the "unearned revenue" which keeps getting bigger -- about 3.1 billion dollars.

Office 2000, Windows NT 5.0 (windows 2000) are around the corner. SQL has recently been released and lots of focus on e-commerce.
Low interest rates, a reasonable PE based upon current market conditions, combined with all of the above = Big gains in the stock price.

Reading between the lines of what management says indicates that there is a lot of value.
