JP, MSFT does not present its case yet. There are still a few witness the DOJ has to go through, starting with executive from Intuit. I don't think he will have nice things to say (just like all of the other competitors).
As the price moves up to 150 by earnings, pressure will be on management to split the stock because the purpose is to make more affordable to individual investors. This alone should add more fuel to push it higher once it reaches 150. Then what -- maybe 155 to 160 by earnings. If the other techs in the PC or related business like SUNW/INTC are upbeat and surprise the street with earnings (which I think should happen), you can bet MSFT should beat estimates easily and not predict doom and gloom for the future.
I am glad there are FEB calls because the company could announce a split a few days after earnings. I am waiting to add. This time I doubt they will wait to announce split because earnings should be at least 5 cents better and future prospects look good. Currency exchange has been great - probably better than they had anticipated. I just saw a story on "newsalert.com" that MSFT and ORCL control about 90 % of database market in Japan and are looking to increase it!! When they said earnings should be 58 cents this quarter, they would have been about at least 5 cents conservative. I think the exchanges rates along with a great consumer demand for PCs should result in at least 65 cents (7 cents better--- they were 7 cents better last quarter). Just a note -- beware of how much of the revenue they defer -- they could reduce EPS through this means.
Just my bullish guess
