TDFX on 32 bit versus 16 bit from www.voodooextreme.com. Note the last line on TDFX PR Guy quiting:

Along the lines of that last post (32 vs. 16 bits) One of the questions that The Grandmaster lubed up today was in regards to whether or not 3Dfx could just "add" 32 bit support to their upcoming V3.  Based on that Q&A I decided to ask 3Dfx if it was indeed possible, here's a response from 3Dfx's meat-popsicle, Brian Bruning:

3Dfx chose not to support 32bit rendering in the announced Voodoo 3 chips for a variety of reasons, the most significant reason being that most current games just do not demand it. This changes as developers start to use higher quality source art and massive multi-texture becomes more common.

The announced Voodoo 3 parts are designed for cost sensitive OEMs and the performance gamer demanding the fastest 3D acceleration in early '99. Although we *could* add 32bit to the Voodoo architecture, the real question we had to answer was whether we *should*.

Speaking of 3Dfx, a big ass Good Luck goes out to their former Director of PR, a Mr. Steve Schick, who recently (very) left the company.>>
