To all: I propose we start working on nominations for a basket of stocks for 1999. Since the early part of the year is good for getting suggestions from all manner of publications (biz & tech magazines), why don't we keep talking about our picks until about the third week of January.
The rules will be informal and we should start a new thread for it. To avoid hype, we can cap off the list of contributors at 20 or so...or maybe the best thing would be to do our discussion here so it doesn't hit the hotlist and then post info about the 1999 portfolio on a new thread.
I suggest we either have a vote of all contributors on all the nominations or have a committee of 3 people to select the final stocks from amongst the nominations. We may only end up with 5 or 6 of us contributing, but since Dale wants to do something, why not go ahead and start.
Why don't people think awhile and then contribute between 1 and 5 nominations of the best looking plays (techs, growth, not too speculative, should be a bit better than a story stock unless you are very convincing) for 1999. Then, we could either vote, or the nominating committee, or just Dale, could make the final cut.
Any other ideas anyone? Personally, I'll have 3 or 4 favorites depending on price, but don't want to be in the position of sifting through all the picks except on a cursory basis, and don't want the job of telling all the Yahooligans where to get off. |
