SteveG,
>>Frank Coluccio referenced (in a message to me) that the use of Unix and NT in OSS systems of circuit-switched networks renders traditional circuit networks as vulnerable as packet networks.<<
As vulnerable? That's not quite what I stated, exactly. In fact, I made allowances for the traditional systems, and stated that unless you were referring to....
What the hey, I may as well just play it back:

Steve,
>> wouldn't happen in circuit-switched telephony...the pitfalls of DATA (packet-switched) telephony networks..<<
Unless you are referring to the old metallic cross point switches that were driven by electromagnetic armatures, then today's switched voice services under the supervision of unix and NT servers at the OSS level are in many ways just as vulnerable to data glitches as those that govern data services. FWIW, Frank --------
Soon, this qualifier of "are in many ways" will be replaced by "equally, " because data, voice and m-m are increasingly sharing the common attribute of "payload only" within unified transport systems that deliver all of the above.
That was my point. The Best, Frank C. |
