Desktop 266 vs. iMac

Remember when the notice came up on the Apple Store that their stock had been sold out through the end of the year? Remember that they mentioned that they still had desktop 266's, although they had sold out of everything else?

Today, I checked MacMall. They have a nifty feature that actually gives their current inventory on a given item. The G3 333 is almost out with only 69 units (to give you an idea of the units they deal with, they have 12,000 iMacs right now). However, taking a look at their G3 266, they still had 5,941 units left!

Why do I care, you ask? It's probably nothing big, but I think this is an indication of the iMac eating into at least *some* of the sales from the regular G3 line. The high-enders are still snapping up those 300's and 333's, but the 266 is just too close feature and price-wise to avoid comparison by a potential buyer to the iMac. Apparently, the iMac is winning.
