Walt! Please explain how being backwardcompatible to a 2G technology "limits the scope" of a new system. Explain this please, I'm all ears? I think I have already answered that one.This chipissue is just a very small piece of the system.I haven't argued that WCDMA is much better than the CDMA2000.I don't think that can be proved in simulations.I think we have to wait for the real systems to see which system is superior.But if we take the chip issue.The reason for the chip rate choosen for CDMA2000 was 3.68 MCPS was because of that is a multiple of the IS-95 chiprate.Why should exactly 3.68 be the most optimal chiprate. "W-CDMA has a TDMA mode to be sort of compatible with TDMA based systems. This mode has 1/2 the capacity of the CDMA mode....please explain your logic about "backwardcompatiblity" and how that's horrible with 3G systems" Are you referring to the TDD mode.If that is the case.That is not WCDMA.It's another mode that will be used in the unpaired band.The reason for taking this into the standard was to get a compromise in ETSI between the 2 camps.Siemens and some other companies was promoting the TDD for the 3g system.So they decide to use WCDMA in the paired band and TDD in the unpaired band if I remebered correctly.
