Republic Industries Selects ON Technology's ON Command CCM to Roll-Out and Manage New Dell OptiPlex N/NX Net PCs
Business Wire - December 14, 1998 09:38
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1998--
Having already received an initial return on their investment using ON Command CCM, Republic Industries is expected to recover its entire initial investment within its first year of use
ON Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:ONTC) today announced that Republic Industries, Inc. has purchased ON Command CCM(tm) (Comprehensive Client Manager), the industry's leading open and scalable desktop management system, to manage new Dell Net PCs in its Fort Lauderdale corporate campus. This unique combination of advanced hardware and software results in an extraordinary reduction in total cost of PC ownership. Republic Industries owns the largest chain of new vehicle dealerships and is building a chain of used car megastores operated under the AutoNation USA brand name. Republic also owns National Car Rental System, Inc., Alamo Rent-A-Car, and CarTemps USA. Republic Industries will use ON Command CCM to deploy, configure and manage 2,000 new Dell OptiPlex N/NX Net PCs. The standard Net PC configurations will include the Windows NT 4.0 operating system including Service Pack 3, Microsoft Office 97, Outlook 98, Dell OpenManager 4.2 and Internet Explorer.
"Using ON Command CCM has already saved Republic a significant amount of deployment time and dollars. Our Return On Investment (ROI) through the deployment of our new systems alone justified the cost," said Keith Holcomb, Vice President of Information Technology, Republic Industries. "Most of the savings will come from the cost avoidance of additional support staff as our organization continues to grow rapidly. ON Command CCM enables us to remotely and automatically manage our desktops effectively thereby removing the laborious 'sneakernet' approach to management."
Republic replaced two existing image-based software distribution tools with ON Command CCM because of its ability to efficiently install and continuously configure operating systems, standard and custom applications, and desktop parameters resulting in a rapid rollout of new standard and custom configured PCs. ON Command CCM supports Wired for Management features incorporated into Dell's PCs and Net PCs, enabling an increase in PC manageability and reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
"For customers that are aggressively implementing new desktop environments to reduce Total Cost of Ownership, this powerful combination of Dell Net PCs and ON Command CCM is the ultimate solution to reduce support and administration costs," said Roy Sanford, vice president, marketing and alliances, ON Technology Corp. "ON Command CCM's ability to deploy operating systems and applications remotely from a console makes it uniquely qualified to manage a Net PC."
