Speaking of Japanese companies.... I wonder to what extent the BOJ incentives (1/2% interest) have favorably impacted the R&D of Japanese companies. I also wonder at what dollar/yen point US-based companies will offer less attractive pricing than Japanese companies in their home market. Over the past couple years, the dollar has moved from a cost of 84 to 117, an increase of nearly 40% to Japanese fabs buying equipment from US suppliers.

While US produced equipment has become significantly more expensive, Japanese companies have benefitted from very low cost funds to re-invest in their R&D programs. What does this augur for the future?
