I look at these charts when you point them out but not knowing the theory I have what may be a really dumb question.

If 20 or less is "bottom territory" then this chart would have declared a bottom around July 20 - a particularly bad time to buy.

Even when it got down to about 5 in early August it wasn't a dependable indicator.

I don't see how this type of analysis can be very useful except in hindsight. Perhaps it just doesn't apply to major disruptions in the chart like we got last summer.
