Absolutely....

not dissimilar to the cellular phone marketing in various areas. Local cellular carriers may not have towers in certain areas. They lease space on their towers/lines/equipment so that their local customers can use their phones in a wider area.

Nowadays people like Sprint PCS have "nationwide" coverage and offer this as a free (or reasonably free) perc. I can take my K.C. phone to St. Louis (or other major city) and use it as if I am at home without extra "roaming" or other such charges. These "roamer" or extra charges arise when your local carrier must pay another carrier for the use of the tower in an area that you may be travelling to.

As far as the possibility of another Corporation acquiring Qwest:

hmmmm...I think that it is an obvious possibility from a fiscal standpoint. I have heard, however, that management and owner are not thinking of this as a priority.

I have acquaintances at Qwest and often hear about goings on. Management has made it very clear that they are not "food for the fishes". They plan to be a fish themselves!

This mentality means one of two things.
A) They are a strong, well managed organization with obvious goals and means.
B) They are supreme marketers

Either way....I'm in! My personal feeling on Qwest is that they will not be swallowed by a large company (ie: MCI/Worldcom) I rather feel that they have the possibility of being the new MCI/Worldcom in the Internet arena.

(Gosh this sounds like a plug! lol)

Regards,

Jason
