"And the '73 gas crises? Seems that normally folks drive around with an average of 1/2 tank of gas. In the "crisis" folks were so jumpy they'd see a line & get in it...suddenly people were driving around with 3/4 of a tank. Zingo a gas shortage."

Yes, similar situation could also happen with a Y2K "crisis". Although, during the 73 gas crisis, I was living in a small town (pop. around 8,000) and never had to wait in line for gas. In 79, I did have to wait in line a few times for gas (that was in Jackson, MI. pop. around 40,000? at the time).
