I have seen more CPQ commercials than usual myself up her in New England. Rather than take the commercials as an attempt to capture (lost or dwindling) business, I took it as an attempt to make sure _everyone_, like it or not, knows about CPQ.

My assessment goes back to a business program on our local PBS station about 2 months ago. Part of the 1/2 hour program was devoted to CSCO's decision to start an advertising program. This was not to drum up business but to make CSCO a name people recognize.

Sometimes we investors fail to realize that companies we know a lot about are total unknowns to people who do not invest in individual stocks. Same for computers. Amazing though it might sound to many people here, there are still scads of people who neither own a computer nor pay any attention to them in stores. Compaq commercials get viewed by the computer disinterested as well as people like us. This might pay-off down the road for CPQ.
