Rob, I fully assume that 3dfx would at least originate some kind of deal like you propose. The actual deal is a different thing entirely. Will Guillemot have web sales? Are they allowed to go through resellers who might sell the product in the US? Is there a contractual penalty for selling in the US? There are too many variables to count and the bottom line is that if there is a significant difference in price, the supply will gravitate there. If you don't believe me, take a quick look into OPEC.

16 bit z-buffer and and trilinear filtering costs 20%-30% while they are trying to say 32 bit has no performance decline? If 3dfx tried to pull this they'd be lynched. I guess ATI gets the Clinton treatment. (i.e. sure its horrible but we don't care.)
