I often wonder about the difference between the bid and the ask. Especially stocks on the NASDQ.

Sometimes during the day, ther is $1 or more spread between.

I wonder if that is just because the issue is moving so fast that they can't keep the orders updated, or rather that someone some where is getting fat off of that spread on every share that is traded.

Look at it this way. Say the spread is 3/4, and there are 1mm shares trades. What happens to that 500k made on the total volume between trades?

Anyone what to give me some help?
