LOUIS RUKEYSER LOOKS TO THE FUTURE IN HIS ANNUAL MONEY GUIDE; HOUR-LONG

Special Considers Internet, YTK and Economic Issues for the Coming Century
OWINGS MILLS, Md., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Louis Rukeyser takes a bold look into the future as he presents the 12th annual edition of his perennially popular "Money Guide" special. "LOUIS RUKEYSER'S 1999 MONEY GUIDE" airs January 8 on PBS stations nationwide (check local listings).
Rukeyser, the nation's most widely-watched economic commentator, considers the accelerating impact of the Internet and fears about YTK melt-down, as Americans enter the final year of the century. He reveals the results of an exclusive national poll of 1,000 Americans, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation of Princeton, NJ, on these and other critical issues dominating American's thoughts as we head towards the 21st Century.
Rukeyser presides over a roundtable of leaders in a brave new Internet world: Scott McNealy, known as the king of computer networking, is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Sun Microsystems, where "Java" the hot Internet product, was conceived. Mr. Rukeyser also welcomes Jerry Yang, "Chief Yahoo" of Yahoo! who gave the nation his brilliant "free to all" Internet service that spawned a billions of dollars advertising industry. And, Internet star William Melton, chairman of CyberCash, joins the party with his finger on the pulse of financial transactions across the Internet.
Having looked at prospects for an Internet society, Louis Rukeyser turns his attention to possible technological mayhem, with guests who have sharply different predictions on how the world will cope with the Year 2000 (YTK) computer-changeover problem! Rukeyser will quiz America's "YTK Czar" John A. Koskinen, Chairman of the President's Council on Year 2000 Compliance, and Edward Yardeni, chief economist of Deutsche Bank, who believes the world will be unready, and in big trouble, when the clock strikes midnight in less than a year.
Rukeyser will then take a close-up look at Americans and their money in 1999, bringing together an all-star cast of financial advisors to analyze the financial picture after a tumultuous year on the stock market.
Joining Rukeyser to give their specific views on where the biggest money will be made are Charles Clough, chief investment strategist at Merrill Lynch; Joseph Battipaglia, market strategist of Gruntal: Tom Gallagher, Washington analyst for Lehman Brothers; Arden Armstong, a leading specialist in small stocks from Miller Anderson & Sherrerd; and Don Phillips, president of Morningstar.
"Wall $treet Week With Louis Rukeyser" is the longest running and by far the most popular of the television financial programs. Called "everyone's favorite economic commentator" by The Washington Post, and recognized as "the granddaddy of all business programs--also the most popular," by Fortune Magazine, Louis Rukeyser has been relied on by two generations of Americans to make sense and fun of the passing economic scene. His program has more viewers than all the other TV programs about money combined.
"Wall $treet Week With Louis Rukeyser" is produced in association with Rukeyser Television, Inc. by Maryland Public Television. The series is made possible by Prudential Securities; A.G. Edwards and Sons, Inc.; Oppenheimer Funds, Inc. and the Kaufman Fund. Executive producer is Rich Dubroff, senior executive producer is John Davis, director is George Beneman, and senior producer is Stephen Reverand. SOURCE Maryland Public Television
