Last of a Series of OTs (?)
Thanks for the references, Steve. There are numerous points I omitted yesterday for brevity's sake. PM'ing you some of them would be a better idea, I think, in order to give the board a break.
An important point I should mention here, however, is that most OSSes are now WAN'ed, especially those having to do with database exchanges, e.g.,800 look-ups and local number portability, E-911, etc., in addition to the entire suite of SS7/AINs.
And competition has fostered a new interconnected OSS framework as well, known as Electronic Bonding, which is an EDI variant that incumbents must now use to share their subscriber billing and other account data with competitors. And lots more that are fashioned around what the CLECs call "hot links" to competing engineering and assignment databases. Lest I permit your point about OSSes not being networked slip by. [g]
Steve, and All,
Have a Healthy, Happy Holiday Season, and a Prosperous 1999
