Sharper Image Internet sales surge!!!

Wednesday December 23, 8:45 am Eastern Time

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 23 (Reuters) - Specialty retailer Sharper Image Corp. said Wednesday it has enjoyed strong holiday
sales through the first three weeks of December, with particularly strong input from its online sales operations.

The increases should significantly affect its earnings for the year, the company said.

''Internet sales continued their very strong performance in December,'' Sharper Image chairman and chief executive Richard Thalheimer said in a statement.

''The 492 percent increase topped the 436 percent increase in November,'' Thalheimer said. ''As consumers get even more comfortable with online shopping, I
expect Internet sales at our sharperimage.com Web site will continue to increase.''

In addition to the online sales increases, Sharper Image said its comparable store sales from Dec. 1 through Dec. 21 climbed 9 percent and mail order sales rose 27
percent. Gross margins also have risen 2 percentage points from a year ago.

''The improvement in gross margin and the increased sales in the all-important December month will significantly impact this year's earnings,'' Thalheimer said.

Wall Street currently expects the company to earn a 28 cent per share profit for the year, which ends at the end of January. A year ago, it earned 7 cents per share.
