Jack,
You're welcome. One difference between Loral's possible situation and MCI/Worldcom's is that MCI had to divest a business that they owned: their internet service, MCI Internet. Lockheed doesn't own Loral outright. Time has shown that the MCI/Worldcom deal has been fantastic for them (and their shareholders); the spinoff of MCI Internet to Cable and Wireless has been good for them, too. They needed a well-established internet business to add to their portfolio of services.
Let's say Lockheed needs to divest their holdings in Loral. I haven't studied Lockheed and Comsat's businesses enough to get a good feel for how a divestiture of Lockheed stock could affect Loral's business (not their stock price - their business). As with LU/Nortel/Alcatel, there is a lot of business for both Lockheed and Loral; they are the "big fish" in their business. It would be a bold step for LU, Nortel or Alcatel to invest in, or purchase, Loral, but I think it's a natural step for at least one of them. I do own some LOR shares (long), but it wasn't until a few days ago that I was aware of takeover rumors (I've heard them on more than half the stocks I've ever owned).

Regards,
Dave
