OT Sig, I don't remember the winter of '37 (my parents weren't even dating yet VBG) but in '77 (I think) I walked west from Point Betsie on the ice until I couldn't see the lighthouse. The ice ridges were up to ten feet high and from the top of one there was still no water in sight. I was at least two, maybe three miles from shore at the furthest. I was told later that the ice went out 10 to 15 miles there. For those who don't know, Lake Michigan proper seldom gets much ice except in bays and close to shore. Point Betsie seldom gets any ice because the water is so deep there. BTW today it is pushing 10 degrees with no wind...downright balmy!!! Hey!!!! Dell just hit 74!!! YEEEEHAAWWW!!!
