Hawkeye, All the discussion on this thread has been re: Methanol (CH3OH) known as wood alcohol to previous generations. Some years back in the US there was a big push to encourage farmers to grow corn with which to make Ethanol or grain alcohol (C2H5OH). This was then mixed on a 20% basis with gasoline to stretch it. The alcohol was said to induce rust in carburators, and enthusiasm waned. It was hard to get excited about alternate fuels with deleterious side effects. However, the grain alcohol is a renewable resource. It would give tobacco farmers something worthwhile to do with their land. Could it not be substituted for Methanol and further dependence on the petroleum complex? My Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary, 12th ed, refers me to The National Alcohol Fuels Information Center in Golden Colorado. Perhaps I'll have to answer my own question. Bill Peavey
