Here is an idea that I think might help some of us smaller investors avoid getting pump'd up and dumped a bit by people using multiple usernames.

Simply put, put a partial or full ip address along with each post. While not a full guarantee of being able to discern someone having two names or a group of people trying to pump a stock, it might be a step in a better direction.

if we had the full ip address, we could go to sambar.com and find out where they are connected from. If we had a partial address we could at least do some minor checking if we suspected collusion.

Knowing the ip or where its connected from, could be used to uncover schemes where someone (or a group) was involved in a pump & dump operation.

I realize dial up connections tend to share ip addresses, but this might go a long ways to at least giving the individual investor a little more chance to detect fraud.

Luckily I don't rely solely on si (no offense please) when I am shopping for a stock to purchase. I tend to use the ValueLine as my primary source, so I have been able to avoid a lot of the scams that people have been hit with. I do however enjoy the posts on SI and many times have found them to be of great interest.

David

PS: if anyone wants to see how an ip addressing works, go to my bio page at geocities.com

then after it loads, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the pink icon. (its the icon left of my picture)

When you are connected to that site, you will see your ip address as one of the more recent hits along with other info, like what OS you are using, etc.
