Is it possible that all the central banks could settle for cash instead of gold? If one hedge fund is allowed to do it, why can't they all, especially if covering with gold will really rattle the markets. If central banks have kept the gold in the first place (in essence having bought back the gold from the lendee at the time of the loan), the banks would still have their gold and their money back with interest? Yes? No? Is it possible to determine how many CB's have actually loaned physical goal (someone backs up the truck and hauls away gold, so to speak) and how many keep the gold and loan it as a paper transaction?
