Scrapps, I agree with your position on USR but disagree on the rolls of Sood & Mickey. MMs provide a liquid market in stocks and as long as they can make a spread are just as happy with stocks going up as down. The one exception is when they have taken a large position to facilitate a client's order. In this case they may be long or short. But their bias in only momentary (as long as they hold that position) not long standing. Analyst's too should be unbiased in their analysis of a company. This may not always be easy - companies and shareholders tend to like positive comments while people that don't own the stock generally don't care. It is the job of the analyst to ask pertinent questions whether the answers will be positive or negative. While this may sound utopian, the clients, if they sense a bias over the longer term, will no longer pay for the advice and the analyst will find himself out of a job.
