Thanks to those skittish 3Com investors who made crossing the street from short to long today that much easier. Now I look forward to walking with the stalwarts, who really understand this stock, as 3Com goes back-up to its appropriate value level at $53 (near term). I look forward to riding with you for the next few days. Hope you don't mind a day trader sharing the long seat with you for the holidays. Arrived at $53 via 10% surprise on earnings release 36c vice the expected 32-33c (I know the consensus was 31c but, we all knew it would be at least 32-33c). Add this 10% surprise to the closing price before earnings release $48 1/2 subtract 1/2-1 point for the hype mark-up and you get a rough estimate of 52 1/2-53 1/2. I know this value method tool will probably be suspect but this is an art not a science. Taken to any extreme it always fails.
