Both statements are correct; Aware's DMT-solution chips populate the Ascend boards that make up ASND's ADSL "modems". In this sense ASND adds substantial value to the Aware chipsets through incorporation into Ascend's product design, i.e., Aware is an OEM to the Ascend finished product but it's the latter that's sold to the ISPs and COs of the telcos.
Ascend has or will have "modems" for HDSL, IDSL and no doubt other flavors of xDSL and each *may* have a different maker's chipset. When connectivity purchase decisions are made by the user they will be based on the success of the final product (the complete solution, not just the chipset) in delivering the best results for the technology being employed, IMHO. And if the user already has Ascend boxes employed that too will be a factor - so the very large installed base is very important in the success equation. The latter fact cannot be overemphasized.
