1. Date 2/5/99 Reasons: Short interest in internet stocks hits a 6 month LOW. Major short sellers have lost so much on the unbelievable ride up that they become gun shy. Without the shorts scrambling to cover there is no demand for the issues at the inflated prices. Couple this with a major news story that many ebay auctions are actually a clearinghouse for stolen goods. Thus the crash begins.
