On_the_Qt, I agree completely with what you wrote ... especially...
>More importantly to me and perhaps others is the ways we can employ >our skills and knowledge to protect ourselves and how if possible to >work together to provide as much of an edge as possible.
however, the individual investor, will always be at a disadvantage because most of us do not see the tape as it rolls... hence, immediate direction of the market is unknown to us till after the fact... and those of us who have "full service brokers" and I am one ... most often than not, the broker will not initiate a recommendation of a buy or sell for fear of going sour... hence, the conventional wisdom of a buy-and-hold investor... which is the best if you want to hold a finite number of stocks and only those stocks... however, the market has many opportunities just like waves in the ocean, and for anyone watching it, will notice that not all shares go up at the same time, or even close percentages at different times... hence, the concept of becoming individual trader not investor... and there is a fine distinction between both... very time consuming, YES... more rewarding, I think so...
finally, wishing you and your family a ery merry Christmas and happy New Year...
