PRI wins multi-million dollar order from Taiwanese
semiconductor manufacturer ProMos

Second major win from ProMos, seventh win in Asia

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1997-- Pri Automation Inc , a world leader
in developing, marketing and implementing full-factory automation systems for semiconductor
manufacturers, announced today that it has received a second major order from ProMos (formerly
known as Mosel Vitelic) of Taiwan.

The multi-million dollar, full-factory automation system will be installed at ProMos' new 200mm
(8-inch) wafer fab in Hsin Chu, Taiwan. This follows an $11-million order that PRI received from
the Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer in March 1995.

"ProMos was the first Asian semiconductor manufacturer to order from PRI," said PRI's president
Mitch Tyson. "This repeat order is a significant milestone for the Company, and reflects PRI's
strong commitment to working closely with its customers to continually satisfy their needs."

"We recently installed PRI's automation equipment at ProMos' 150mm (6-inch) wafer fab in Hsin
Chu, and have been very pleased with the results," stated Nasa N.H. Tsai, Ph.D., Vice President,
Production Group at ProMos. "Based on that experience, ProMos has chosen to order from PRI
again for Fab 3, our new 200mm wafer facility."

ProMos has ordered:

-- PRI's Automated Material Handling System (AMHS), TransNet Material Control System
(MCS), Stockers and AeroTrak overhead monorail system for interbay transport of SMIF pods

-- PRI's Automated Reticle Management System (ARMS) consisting of reticle box stockers and
AeroTrak, and MCS

"PRI's new, Windows-based, integrated material control system, TransNet, was a major factor in
winning this order," noted Robert Postle, PRI's vice president of sales and marketing. "For the first
time in the semiconductor industry, a customer is able contract with a single supplier for a complete
fab automation system, including all software and hardware support."

PRI will deliver and install the system in FY 1997.
